  Are social media and blogs about running campaigns? Or building relationships?
 
As a marketeer, do you look at social media as just a place to run promotions, to advertise and to run other campaigns? Or do you see these as platforms to build relationships and take your engagement to a different level? Real examples would help.

I am seeking these answers for a soon-to-be-launched PDF e-mag on social media / blogs for marketing and PR to be called Social Ambit. If you would rather not be quoted, do let me know.
